There were victories for the premier league debutants in the opening match of the GLO Nigeria Professional League season played on Saturday in Umuahia and Jalingo

Abia Warriors have begun their premier league sojourn with a 2-0 home win over Kaduna United in Umuahia. The elite division debutants outclassed the somewhat out of sort Crocodiles on Saturday evening.

Ulocha Chima and Bishop Onyeudo's strikes gave the maximum points to Isa Ladan Bosso's Warriors who also have ex-Eagles' defender Emeka Ezeugo in their backroom staff.

It was the club's maiden win in the premier league after securing a place among the big boys at the end of last season.

FC Taraba began their campaign in the Nigeria Premier League on a winning note by beating Nasarawa United 1-0 in a match played at the Jalingo Township Stadium.

FC Taraba's goal was scored in the first half of the match through Abel Bobby. It was a connecting header from a free kick floated into Nasarawa's box by Usman Mohammed.

Though, the visiting team had the opportunity of opening scores when they were awarded a penalty earlier in the match but Ngomo Fabrice could not convert the spot kick. FC Taraba goal keeper Richard Ocheayi was at his best as he conveniently parried the spot kick. Every effort by Nasarawa united to get the equaliser was thwarted by the alert goalkeeper and the defence line led by Nwokolo Amadi.

FC Taraba chairman Tijani Babangida expressed happiness with the first three points recorded by his team after the game.

"I am really happy that we got the three points in our first match in the premier league, but there is more work to be done by the coaching crew if we are going to sustain this victory. But I am a happy man today that we won this match."

Meanwhile, Nasarawa United chairman, Isaac Danladi applauded the performance of both teams during the match saying that they both gave their best. He also applauded the performance of the Referees saying that they did not give undue advantage to the home team.

FC Taraba's next league match is against Kaduna United at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna next weekend. Babangida says they hope to go for the maximum three points against their hosts.
