A new chairperson has been named for the Local Organising Committee for next years’ African Nations Championship billed for South Africa
Molefi Oliphant has been announced as the new 2014 African Nations Championship LOC board chairperson. He replaces Mwelo Nonkonyana, who was withdrawn from the board few days ago.
Nonkonyana, South Africa Football Association vice-president’s appointment was detached from his position due to his public remarks he made about Gordon Igesund’s 's future as Bafana Bafana coach.
Oliphant, a CAF Executive Committee and Fifa Appeals Board member, will head the body saddled with the responsibility of organising a successful tourney which begins on January 11 and ends on February 1, 2014.
“It is always an honour to serve the nation. Chan is a very important tournament and I am humbled to have been tasked to be the Chairman of a Board that will without a doubt make South Africans proud. I promise to do my best, with the support of the team to make this tournament a success,” Oliphant told Caf’s website.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria have been drawn in Group A of January 2014 Orange African Nations Championship alongside the host South Africa, Mozambique and Mali.
