The head coach left his duty post shortly after their elimination by Nasarawa United in the Federation Cup over alleged threat to his life
There are indications that Sunshine Stars' head coach Fatai Amoo has abandoned the team after he was allegedly about to be attacked by supporters of the club shortly after their elimination from the Federation Cup Round of 16 by Nasarawa United in Lokoja on Wednesday.
Although a Goal source in Akure confirmed that the former Super Eagles' coach did not return with the team to Akure after the match, but he has not officially resigned from his duty post.
Goal learnt that the defeat to the Lafia side didn't go down well with the supporters of the Akure Arsenal as they attacked Sunshine Stars player Francis Mishack shortly after the match.
The source also confirmed that Amoo was almost beaten by same supporters, the main reason behind his action.
Amoo who has been on break after he left 3SC at the beginning of last season replaced Samuel Abimbola who was sacked by the management of the team over a string of poor results.
The former international could not be reached as at the time of filing this report.
Sunshine had set a return to the continent as a mandate for their coaches and Abimbola was shown the exit door after he it seemed the target might not be achieved by him before the conclusion of this season's first stanza.
The Akure Arsenal represented Nigeria in CAF inter club competitions in 2011 and 2012 in the Confederation Cup and Champions League and got to the semi final on both occasions. They were then led by Gbenga Ogunbote who voluntarily resigned at the end of last season to seek another adventure.
