Many NPFL clubs scaled through to the next round of the Federation Cup but Kwara United and Wikki Tourists were handed shocking defeats by lower league sides
Omofomah would be recalled had earlier boasted he knew the secret of his erstwhile club and he didn't disappointed at all seizing a good chance presented to him on the platter in the 40th minute to hand the Seasiders a precious win.
Warri Wolves' Head Coach,Solomon Ogbeide praised his boys and attributed the success to the divine hands of God. He however disclosed it was just the beginning as Warri Wolves won't take chances this year in a competition they have never qualified for the quarter final stage.
"This is just the beginning. We are going all the way. It is no time to celebrate yet but we shall gradually rewrite the history of the club in the Federation Cup this year," Ogbeide was quoted by club media officer, Moses Etu.
The scorer of the lone goal, Omofomah Freedom was a subdued person after scoring against the club that gave him the breakthrough and he didn't celebrate the goal as a mark of respect for his ex-club.
It should be noted that Warri Wolves played the game with most of their fringe players and highest goals scorer, Oghenekaro Etebo was not even dressed at all.
At Bako Kontagora Stadium in Minna, Lobi Stars defeated high-fighting National League side, Crown FC of Ogbomosho on 5-3 on penalties after the regulation time had ended 1-1.
In a pulsating match that saw both sides dishing out high level of entertaining soccer was ironically played in front of pocket sized crowd in Minna.
There was only one goal in the first half at the advantage of the premier league side and converted by Chimaobi Nwaogu in the 40th minute. They were however to reduced to 10 men in the second half when rookie star, Joseph Ujah was given a red card by centre referee Francis Agbegbu for an undisclosed offence.
The Makurdi Arsenal however strove to hold on the lone goal lead until disaster struck in the 85th minute which gifted Crown FC, Lekan Agunloye the equaliser.
Lobi scored all their five spot kicks played by Chimaobi Nwaogu, Emma Ajia, Ezekiel Bassey and goalkeeper Terkaa Melai who scored the deciding penalty kick and also caught Crown's Abiodun Akinola's spot kick.
Before Akinola's miss, Crown FC had successfully converted their first three penalty kicks through Victor Ikechukwu, Waheed Bello and Lekan Agunloye.
Lobi's Technical Director, Dominic Iorfa dedicated the victory to God and he affirmed the game was that difficult because of the giant killing that is associated with the Federation Cup but he disclosed that with this win, Lobi would target another final appearance this term again.
"We thank God we won. Just the maxim of the Chinese, a thousand mile starts with a step. We have started with a victory and we hope to sustain it until we will get to the final and win it this time," Iorfa expressed.
At the Tafawa Balewa Stadium, Bauchi El Kanemi Warriors stopped the further progress of Apa United from Benue State 1-0.
Mike Simon netted the only goal in the first half for the Maiduguri based club and the game produced less anxious moments in the second half.
At Ado Ekiti, Enyimba taught Police Machine of Nasarawa State some football lessons as they whitewashed the team 5-1 in a rather one sided Federation Cup tie while Gombe United were too much to handle for Imo reps, Bussdor as they were outclassed 9-1.
Akwa Starlets and Plateau United created the first major upsets of this year's Federation Cup after they eliminated two premier league clubs in the Round of 64.
Akwa Starlets beat Kwara United 6-5 after penalty shootout after the tie had ended 2-2 at the end of the regulation time. The game was played at Oghara while Plateau United pipped Wikki Tourists 2-1 in a northern affair.
ABS also scaled through by the skin of their teeth after the survived penalty kick lotteries to beat Arewa United 7-6 as Dolphins waltzed past NAF Rockets 3-1 at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium, Benin City. Isiaka Olawale put the Port Harcourt dwellers at the driver's seat but NAF equalised as the first half ended 1-1.
The story however changed in the second half when Ifeanyi Egwin and Omoh Ojabu increased Dolphins' lead. Kaduna United also silenced Unicem Rovers 1-0.
