The tie between the two warriors is gathering momentum as both clubs slug it out for the three points at stake in Ilorin
Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan have said they would try something new against Kwara United on Sunday at the Kwara State Stadium, Ilorin to ensure they leave the state without a defeat in their Globacom Premier League Week 18 game.
3SC's media officer, Jubril Arowolo who hinted Goal said the Oluyole Warriors top hierarchy are not happy with the club's unsatisfactory away form and have instructed the technical crew to ensure that they get at least a draw against the Afonja Warriors on Sunday.
"We are not happy about our away form. Although we blamed the match officials for some of our defeats but if we have been clinical enough in front of goal things would have been different. A good goal cannot be stopped by a referee. We must do our bit to ensure that our poor away form is halted.
"We need to finish the first stanza with a firm statement and the only way to do that is to get something out of fixture with Kwara United and then go to Enugu to pick at least a point against Rangers. The State government has been of tremendous help and we must show in the pitch that we are up to the task and that the continental target set at the beginning of the season is possible," Arowolo said.
3SC are on 25 points from 17 fixtures. They are four points adrift of their Sunday's opponents who are on 29 points though with a game more than the Ibadan side.
Meanwhile, Kwara United's head coach, Samson Unuanel has predicted a close contest between his wards and 3SC but he vowed to do just enough for the Afonja Warriors to emerge victorious.
Unuanel in a chat with Goal at the Rojenny Stadium,Oba near Onitsha where his team grabbed a goalless draw against Akwa United said he would do everything possible to sustain the club's good start to the season.
Kwara United have won games at Lobi Stars and Sharks while they also picked away draws at Enyimba, ABS and Akwa United which they have used to atone for some unimpressive display at home.
The Afonja Warriors have lost at home to Nasarawa United and drew at Ilorin to Sunshine Stars and Dolphins too. They have 29 points from 18 games to be placed third behind Kano Pillars and Warri Wolves.
