Nigerians Abroad: Ike Uche scores to keep Villarreal in promotion hunt but Ideye's goal cannot help Dynamo avoid defeat

The 2012/13 league season ended in most European countries last weekend and some Nigerians scored key goals
Victor Anichebe started for Everton in their 2-1 loss to Chelsea on Sunday to give David Moyes a losing send-off. Anichebe gave the defensive pairing of David Luiz and Gary Cahill all sorts of problems especially in the first half.

After Chelsea opened the scoring in the eighth minute, Everton responded with an equaliser in the 14th minute with the assist from Anichebe.

Anichebe was replaced in the 67th minute by Johnny Heitinga. He had 85% pass accuracy from 36 touches on the ball and committed two fouls. He also won half of his aerial duels while taking one shot.

Victor Moses started on the bench for Chelsea while Mikel Obi was not listed at all. Moses came off the bench for Demba Ba in the 66th minute and he made an immediate impact by setting up the winning goal for Fernando Torres in the 76th minute.

The Nigeria international, who played no part in the Europa Cup triumph last Wednesday, ended his first season at Chelsea on a bright note by setting up the goal that guaranteed the Blues third position and an outright passage into next season’s Champions League group stage. Moses scored 10 goals in all competitions.

Moses had 83% pass accuracy from 11 touches on the ball, had one shot and completed one dribble successfully.

There was a no-show for Peter Odemwingie for West Brom in the 5-5 draw with Manchester United as the Nigerian striker seeks a route out of the Hawthorns.

Uche opened the scoring in the fourth minute and closed it in the 92nd. Villarreal are in third position but with the same 68 points with second-placed Almeria with three matches to go.

Ideye and Lukman Haruna started the match and Ideye got the equaliser in the 27th minute. Taye Taiwo was on the bench throughout the game. Haruna was replaced in the 50th minute by Denis Boyko. Ideye has now scored 21 goals in all competitions this season with a game left to play in the league.

Ahmed Musa can now celebrate a club title as CSKA Moscow got a 0-0 draw at home to Kuban Krasnodar on Saturday. It will be Musa’s second title win in 2013 as he adds club honours to the Super Eagles Nations Cup win in February.

CSKA lead Zenit St. Petersburg by three points with a game left but have won more games – 20 to 18, which automatically gives them the title so they can afford to lose their last game.

Musa is also in contention to win the double as they are in the final of the domestic cup where they will face a Samuel Eto-led Anzhi Makhachkala on May 31.

Standard Liege and Imoh Ezekiel got the results they needed on Sunday as they beat Lokeren 4-3 and Club Brugge beat Genk for Standard to make the fourth position and a place in the Europa League playoffs.
