The Flying Antelopes would need to improve on their play in the second leg to have any chance of qualifying for the group stage of the Confederation CupUgonna Uzochukwu scored the match winner and was moments later red carded as Enugu Rangers defeated CS Sfaxien 1-0 in a CAF Confederation Cup match on Sunday.
Uzochukwu who missed the last game against Recreativo Libolo got the winning goal three minutes from full time after Tunisian club Sfaxien were almost running away with a draw in the game played at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu.
Rangers who were depleted with the absence of Super Eagles duo of Sunday Mba and Chigozie Agbim and Emeka Eze who was suspended, started the game on a high tempo.
But it was the Tunisians that almost got the curtan raiser as Emmanuel Daniel in goal for Rangers parried the ball into the corner off a fierce shot.
Rangers soon settled down and started dictating play, but the strikers were wasteful in front of goal. Seun Taro, Alhaji Gero and Sanusi Sani could not get their rhythm and they failed to connect the begging chances that came their way.
Rangers resumed in the second half and their best player of the day Chisom Egbuchulem terrorised the defenders of Sfaxien, but all his efforts could not be complemented by the strikers.
When all hopes were lost, Uzochukwu produced the winner three minutes to the end of the match and was booked for celebrating by pulling off his shirt.
He was subsequently sent off for the second booking some minutes later. He will miss the second leg in Sousse.
