Drogba was the go-to guy in final matches with the Ivorian striker scoring nine goals in nine final matches over the course of his Chelsea career.
“There is no Didier this year. He is the man and someone who came up with the goods for us in the big games,” Mikel told Standard Sport.
“When we played the FA Cup semi-final against Manchester City, I walked on to the pitch at Wembley, looking for Didier and I couldn’t find him. He was the one that always scored the goals.
Drogba scored the equaliser against Bayern in last season's Uefa Champions League final and tucked in the last penalty to win the trophy for the Blues.
“We had a very good team last year. That’s why we won the Champions League. There was no luck, we played for each other.
“But I think now we have a great, young team and we are moving in the right direction. It will be great for the players to win another medal.
“However, Benfica have proved they’re a very good side. It’s going to be a very tough game.”
Mikel was immense for Chelsea against Bayern Munich in last season’s Champions League final and even though he has missed the last four matches due to a hip complaint, he believes the available players like compatriot Victor Moses will get the job done.
“If you’re a Chelsea player you’re brought in to play big games, so you have to show what you can do in important matches. That’s what I have tended to do here,” Mikel concluded.
