thumbnail Hello,

Fans of the 2012 Federation Cup runners up take the law into their hands by terrorising and beating match officials

The Week 10 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) encounter between Lobi Stars of Makurdi and Enyimba on Wednesday saw the re-emergence of football hooliganism in the local league as fans pounced on the centre referee and his assistants after the 0-0 draw at the Katsina Ala Stadium.

Lobi's fans took out their frustration on the centre referee, A.A Ibrahim from Kaduna and the two Assistant Referees; Tope Arowolo from Osun and Kabiru Adams of Kaduna, who were all physically assaulted.

Lobi Stars had won all the their four home games till date against Akwa United, ABS, Sharks and Rangers and the fans of the Makurdi side were expecting another win against Enyimba but when they did not get their wish they descended the match arbiters. The centre referee was badly beaten up and had to be rushed to Toro Hospital in Katsina Ala for medical attention.

Goal was not told what was the grouse of the home fans but findings reveal that Lobi  supporters were not pleased with a home draw hence the decision to pounce on the match officials for not yielding to their demands to allow Lobi win by whatever means.

Enyimba were not deterred by the unfriendly disposition towards them in Katsina Ala and defended stoutly and resolutely until the end to get the desired draw.

It is now left to the League Management Company (LMC) to decide on the punishment and sanctions for the erring club.
