Nigerians Abroad: Eneramo scores first hat-trick of the season and Lukman Haruna bags a brace in Ukraine

There were a multitude of goals across Europe from Nigerian players as the season reaches its zenith
Victor Anichebe started and ended for Everton in their 1-0 win over Fulham at Goodison Park on Saturday. And as early as the second minute, Anichebe tried to test Mark Schwarzer, in goal for Fulham. His first attempt was high and wide and in the 22nd minute, his header was marginally wide.

He got off another shot in the 33rd minute but it was also high and wide. In first half additional time, another right footed shot from outside the box was blocked.

Anichebe had 74% accuracy of pass from 38 touches and won 83% of his aerial duels. He attempted four shots and successfully completed one dribble.

Peter Odemwingie returned to the West Brom bench in their 3-0 away win over Southampton. The Nigerian has been out with a thigh injury.

Mikel Obi was on the bench for all 90 minutes as Chelsea beat Swansea 2-0 on Sunday to move up to third in the Premier League. Victor Moses who scored in last Thursday's 2-1 Europa League first leg semi final win over Basel was not listed at all.

Reading and Hope Akpan have been relegated to the Championship as they drew 0-0 away to bottom-placed QPR on Sunday.


Lukman Haruna scored a brace for Dynamo Kiev as they beat Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk 2-0 and remained in the hunt for a Champions League berth. Haruna scored in the ninth minute and added the second in first half additional time. the Super Eagles midfielder has now scored four goals in 14 league games. Haruna was shown a yellow card in the 55th minute - his fifth of the league season.

The first goal was a counter attack that started in the Dynamo half off a ball won by Haruna and the Nigerian just kept running before receiving the ball and he coolly chipped the goalkeeper.

The second goal was made in Nigeria as all three Nigerians played a big part. Taye Taiwo's long ball from defence was chased down by Brown Ideye who passed to Andrei Yarmolenko, who then laid it into the path of the onrushing Haruna to dispatch home a decisive right footed shot.

Taye Taiwo and Brown Ideye also started the match with Ideye replaced in the 92nd minute. The top marks man for Dynamo received a yellow card in the 56th minute.

Michael Odibe played his sixth league game for Arsenal Kyiv in their 3-1 away win over Hoverla on Saturday. The 24-year old defender has received three yellow cards and is on loan from Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk, for whom he played 10 times in the league before his switch.


Emmanuel Emenike returned to league action for Spartak Moscow on Sunday and he helped his side defeat Anzhi Makhachkala 2-0. Emenike, who last played for Spartak against Zenit on November 30, 2012, replaced Artem Dzyuba in the 54th minute. He was brought down for the penalty in the 68th minute which Dmitri Kombarov converted.

Obinna Nsofor played for 68 minutes before being replaced by Felipe Caicedo, who went on to score in the 83rd minute. Lokomotiv Moscow beat Rostov 3-1 to remain in ninth position with 37 points. Nsofor has played 23 league games and scored twice.

CSKA Moscow lost 2-0 on Sunday when they visited Rubin Kazan and Ahmed Musa played all 90 minutes. CSKA's lead has now been cut to three points as second-placed Zenit were held 2-2 at Kuban Krasnodar.


Michael Eneramo returned to scoring with a vengeance as he scored thrice against Istanbul BB on Saturday. The striker who just got a recall to the Super Eagles scored in the 26th, 42nd and 56th minutes of the game to help Sivasspor to a 4-1 win. Simon Zenke played all 90 minutes for Istanbul.

Eneramo scored the second goal of the match from a tap in, the second was from a beautifully flighted free kick from outside the box and the third was delightful as he sidestepped his marker to unleash a venomous effort that the goalkeeper had no chance with.

The former Esperance striker has 11 goals to his name in 28 matches and he bids to replicate his 15-goal haul from last season with three matches to go.

Kalu Uche's Kasimpasa were beaten 2-1 at home by Eskisehirspor and that has put a dent on their European place chase. Uche has scored 19 league goals for the newly promoted side and they remain in fifth position with 46 points with three matches left.



Macauley Chrisantus and Las Palmas were hammered 5-1 by Cordoba on Saturday but the former Golden Eaglets striker got on the score sheet to register his 10th league goal in 35 appearances. Chrisantus scored in the 56th to halve the deficit but further goals in the 57th, 75th and 88th minutes left the away side reeling.

Las Palmas had two players sent off in the 21st and the 22nd minutes and they remain in sixth place with 58 points and six matches left in the season.

Former U21 striker, Uche Nwofor scored his eighth league goal on Saturday to help VVV Venlo to a 1-1 away draw against Kenneth Omeruo'sADO Den Haag. VVV are in another relegation dogfight as they stayed 17th in the 18-team league. They are guaranteed a relegation playoff at the end of the season.

Nwofor scored in the 14th minute and was replaced in the 88th while Omeruo played all 90 minutes.

Standard Liege kept up their hopes of a Champions League berth on Sunday by beating table-toppers, Zulte Waregem 1-0.

Imoh Ezekiel started but he was substituted in the 65th minute. The 19-year-old striker has scored 15 goals in 27 league appearances. Standard next travel to face Anderlecht next Sunday and if they can get a win, they could temporarily go top of the table.


Ejike Uzoenyi was on the bench for Rennes on Saturday as they won 2-0 away at Brest but the former Enugu Rangers winger did not get onto the pitch. Uzoenyi joined Rennes officially after the Nations Cup, which he won with the Super Eagles in February but he is yet to play for his new team.

Onyekachi Apam was not listed at all and John Utaka was also missing from the Montpellier squad as the defending Ligue 1 champions lost 2-1 to Ajaccio. Utaka was also not listed last week.



Sidney Sam played his 20th league game of the season for Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday as they beat Werder Bremen 1-0 at the Bay Arena to stay in third place. Sam, who is in the process of changing nationality to Nigeria played for 65 minutes before being replaced by Gonzalo Castro.

There was also the welcome return of Joseph Akpala to the Bremen team after a lenghty injury spell. Akpala came on in the 75th minute to replace Ozkan Yildirim. The Nigerian has just one goal in 19 league appearances.

Germany-born Leon Balogun played his 17th league game for Fortuna Dusseldorf as they lost 2-1 to Borrusia Dortmund. Balogun played at right back for all 90 minutes.

2. Bundesliga

Super Eagles invitee, Anthony Ujah (pictured above) scored again for Cologne as they drew 1-1 at home to 1860 Munich, Ujah, on loan from Mainz FC scored in the seventh minute but 1860 equalised in the 78th minute through Daniel Halfar.
