League sponsorship: Glo pays LMC N550 million
The telecommunications giant has come to an agreement with the League Management Company as title sponsor of the 2012/13 season
Globacom on Wednesday sealed the rights as the title sponsor of Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) after delivering a cheque of N550 million to the League Management Committee for the 2012/13 season.
The LMC Chairman Nduka Irabor disclosed this in Abuja on Wednesday.
"We have made impressive progress so far. One of my members Shehu Diko just came with the good news and he has with him a cheque of N550 million naira from Globacom as Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) title sponsorship fee," Irabor said.
Irabor also revealed "Like I said we have made progress so far. N100 million cheque was received from Globacom to pay Total Promotions Limited as compensation for settling out of court the NPFL title sponsor imbroglio.
Irabor also revealed that his LMC has concluded plans to fix player's salary at N150,000 per month. "We want our league to be very attractive so we are going to make sure that the lowest monthly salary for players in the NPFL is N150,000.
"We believe that our players should be well appreciated like their counterparts in Sudan, South Africa and other places. So we don't want a situation where our players would go to leagues in Iran, Sudan and other places just for the sake of better money they would receive there," Irabor disclosed.
