The Nigerian scored the only goal in the FA Cup replay to hand his team a semi-final berth at Wembley
Nigerian defender, Danny Shittu scored the only goal of Wednesday’s FA Cup replay at Ewood Park to hand his Championship side a Wembley semi-final place.
Millwall thus return to famous Wembley Stadium for the first time since 1999.
Shittu scored in the first half through a diving header to cap a performance that deserved commendation in the two games.
In the first leg, Shittu’s 40-yard shot and another shot in the second half had been close but he eventually made Blackburn pay with his goal on Wednesday.
Though there was a bit of a controversy on the events that led to the goal but Shittu and Millwall will believe they were the better of the two teams over the two matches and made their luck.
Referee Mark Clattenburg awarded a corner after Millwall midfielder Chris Taylor shot into the side net and replays showed that there had been no deflection on the shot.
Though Millwall are in 17th position in the Championship, they are now just one step away from qualifying for Europe as the likely finalists - Manchester City, United and Chelsea will most likely qualify straight from the Premiership.
Shittu is yet to score in the league but has now scored two goals in three FA Cup appearances. Millwall will now play Wigan on April 13 at Wembley.
