With the Ukrainian season set to kick-off the second phase on Friday, Dynamo Kiev’s Brown Ideye believes his side has to win all their matches to be well placed at the end of the season and qualify for another foray in the Uefa Champions League.
With 13 goals in17 league games, Ideye said he wants to do more to make sure that Dynamo finish the second phase better than they did the first.
“I understand that it is necessary to forget the African Cup and concentrate on performances for the club itself,” Ideye told his club’s official website.Dynamo were bundled out of the Uefa Europa League in last week’s 1-0 defeat away to Bordeaux, losing the tie 2-1 on aggregate; which means the league is the only trophy that they can fight for though they lie third on the log, a massive 14 points behind Shakhtar Donetsk.
“I always say to myself that football is an unpredictable game. It is impossible to win all the matches.
“Win, yes, but sometimes you lose or play a draw. If you cannot win the gold of the season, we just have to win second place.
“As for me, every game I try to show my best qualities and give everything, more than a 100% maybe.
Dynamo are in a keen contest for second place with Metalist and Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk and resume in the league with a match at home on Sunday against Kryvbas.
“Both teams are very strong and organized. Do not forget that at the moment Dnipro are ahead of us in the standings.
“Moreover, not only we, but the two teams have completed their performance in European competition, which means that the battle for second place will be very serious.
“But this second place battle is not limited to these two teams. In the championship there are quite a few teams that can surprise and also seek higher ground.
That we need to be one team and demonstrate their best football. I believe that we are equal to win all the remaining matches in the Ukrainian championship,” Ideye added.
