Nigeria's CAF Champions League campaigner,Kano Pillars have shown the zeal to progress beyond the preliminary stage of the money spinning club competition after demolishing visiting Olympique de Bangui of Central African Republic 5-1in the first leg played at the Sani Abacha Stadium.
Pillars led 2-1 at halftime through goals from Bello Musa Kofarmata and Nasiru Ali before going ruthless in the second half with three more goals to end the scoreline on an emphatic note ahead of the second leg in Bangui in a fortnight.
The Central African Republic club fought back to pull a goal back through Didier Yabo in the 44th minute.
Kano Pillars continued with their dominance in the game and were rewarded with a third goal in the 57th minute through substitute Nafiu Ibrahim got the thrid goal in the 57th minute of the game, before Rabiu Ali made 4-1 with a beautiful strike nine minutes later.
Nafiu Ibrahim would put the icing on the cake for the Kano side with the fifth goal a minute to the end of the match.
Coach Baba Ganaru said after the game that they will not relent until they travel for the second leg and qualify for the next round of the competition.
"We are not going to rest on our oars. We will keep working hard until after the second leg game".
The Nigeria Professional Football League(NPFL) defending champions are staging a comeback to the prestigious competition after a two year break. They were ousted in the second round in 2011 by Wydad Athletic Club(WAC) of Morocco.
The impressive first leg result may have rendered the second leg a mere formality.
The country's other representatives, Enugu Rangers have a task on their hands to equal the feat set by Pillars when they host Sporting Club do Principe tomorrow at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium,Enugu.
It is the first time that continental game will be hosted their in nearly 10 years since the Flying Antelopes forays in the CAF Confederation Cup in 2004 and the Enugu fans will be expecting an awesome scoreline in the first leg ahead of the return leg.
