A lawyer and football agent, Chike Onyeacho has told Goal.com that a player in his stable, Uche Kalu was not sacked by Rizespor, a Turkish second division side.
Kalu who has scored nine goals from 11 matches was dropped from the Super Eagles squad to the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations because of injury and he qquickly returned to Turkey to take care of his leg.
Onyeacho revealed that what happened was simply a collective decision to strengthen the team for the remaining months in the season.
"When Uche Kalu was injured in Faro during the Super Eagles closed camping, he duly informed coach Stephen Keshi and he was dropped from the team.
"His club asked him to quickly return to Turkey. When he got back to his club, they sent him to a hospital where the doctors told the club that he will be out for four months.
"Uche is on loan till May 30th and if he is out for four months, it means he will only return to action weeks before the end of the season.
"And his strike partner who incidentally is also a foreigner was also injured and out of the game. So the club immediately felt that they cannot lose two of their strikers when they should be challemging for promotion to the elite division.
"They called Uche and explained everytthing to him. And they called me and also told me the predicament in which they are.
"In Turkey, only three foreigners are allowed to sign for any club. And with two of the foreigners out, it behoves on the club to try and get new players to replace the injured players.
"For you to replace injured players, you must cancel the contract of the players you want to replace.
"We agreed for Uche to be replaced and we found out that Rizespor took Uche to another hospital where they told him that he can return to the game towards the end of February.
"But at that time, it was late to recall Uche and make him start playing again because it won't be long before he returns to the pitch.
"So it is not as if Uche's contract was cancelled because of performance. It was cancelled because the club felt a need to see how they can make every use of what they have got to fight for promotion next season.
"Kalu will soon start playing again," Onyeacho concluded. Uche Kalu joined Rizespor on a year loan from Nigeria Premier League side, Enyimba.
