Nwankwo Kanu’s goal against Deportivo in 2000 earns comparison with Messi’s first goal against Osasuna

The former Nigerian international was compared to the current World Footballer of the year in the way they finished past goalkeepers
Catalan newspaper, Sporton Monday compared Lionel Messi’s first goal against Osasuna on Sunday with a famous Nwankwo Kanu goal for Arsenal at Highbury against Deportivo La Coruna in 2000 in a Uefa Cup competition.

The technique with which both players scored is called ‘giving the keeper the eyes’. The two players simply walked in the ball after fooling the goalkeeper

And in the same way that four-time Fifa Player of the rear fooled Osasuna goalkeeper, Andres Fernandez on his way to scoring four goals for in the 5-1 rout of Osasuna, Kanu tricked legendary Cameroonian goalkeeper, Jacques Songo’o for Arsenal’s fourth goals as they also romped to an identical 5-1 score 13 years ago.

Former Super Eagles captain, Nwankwo Kanu’s goal came in a 5-1 rout for Arsenal over Deportivo La Coruna in March 2000 as Arsenal marched to the UEFA Cup final in 2000, where they lost to Galatasaray on penalties.

Galatasaray of Turkey beat Arsenal 4 –1 on penalties after extra time on May 17,  2000 in Copenhagen.
