Kaduna United hold Pillars in Kano friendly
Pillars preparation for the Africa's clubs' lucrative competition suffered another setback on Wednesday in Kano after an insipid draw against Kaduna United at home
One of the country's representatives in the CAF Champions League, Kano Pillars were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Kaduna United in a friendly encounter played at the Sani Abacha Stadium on Wednesday. The twice league champions drew the first blood in the first half when goal keeper, Joel Afelokhai put his club in the driver's seat from the penalty spot after the centre referee had spotted an infringement while the visiting Kaduna United clawed their way back in the second half through Peter 0noja.
There was no further goals by either side until the referee signalled the end of proceedings.
Kaduna United captain, Peter Ambrose said the match was interesting stating that they saw it as another build up towards their preparation for the new league season.
"We drew 1-1 and held on to that until the end of the match. It was a good friendly match organised to guage both teams preparation for the new league season and Pillars continental campaign. Nothing much should be read into the friendly tie," Ambrose counselled.
Pillars recently came second in the pre season tournament held on home soil after a surprise 1-0 loss to Heartland despite having better ball possession than their opponent.
But the club regrouped in the last two ties beating Lobi Stars 3-1 and Enugu Rangers 2-0 to finish behind the Naze Millionaires with barely a point.
Pillars chairman, Alhaji Abba Galadima told Goal.com that the results of the matches played would not be reckoned with yet until the club is able club raise a standard team before the Champions League preliminary fixture against their Gambian opponents on February 16
The club will play more friendly encounters in the coming days.
