The Desert Scorpions have arranged testy build up matches as the February 16 kick off date of the Nigeria Premier League gathers momentumGombe United's technical adviser, Maurice Cooreman has informed Goal.com that his wards would entertain some Nigeria Premier League (NPL) teams like El Kanemi, Kaduna United, Kano Pillars among others in their build up to the new league season.
Cooreman left Warri Wolves by mutual consent after narrowly guiding them to premier league safety in a largely disappointing season by the team's standards but the Belgian has noted that he had put all that behind him as he seeks another adventure with 2008 Federation Cup finalists this season.
The former Enyimba, Lobi Stars, Ocean Boys and Kaduna United coach said the friendly matches they are striving to arrange are meant to put his new assemblage players in shape and better fortified for life in the NPL when it begins on February 16 across the nation.
Cooreman enthused he was relieved that fragile peace is gradually returning to the NPL after months of in-fightings but reckons that the February 16 new date proposed should mark the end to the several series of postponements which have stopped the season from starting.
Cooreman said: "We are going to play against clubs like Kaduna United, El Kanemi Warriors, Nasarawa United and even Kano Pillars. We want to examine our state of preparedness for the new league season and matches like these ones would no doubt toughen us for the challenges ahead.
"I was told a sponsor had been found for the league. I like that and I hope it brings an end to seeming problems? The league must start on February 16 if the NPL should be taken seriously."
He also added that the club would prosecute the league season with 30 players made up largely of those that were in the team last season.
