Nigerians Abroad: Moses signs off to the Nations Cup with another goal for Chelsea

The 22-year-old flew out to join his Super Eagles team mates in Faro, Portugal as the team continues preparation for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations Cup

Victor Moses made sure to leave a good impression with his coach and Chelsea fans with a goal against Southampton on Saturday in the FA Cup. The Nigerian winger who flew out to Portugal after the 5-1 rout scored the second goal for Chelsea in first half additional time to lead the Chelsea fight-back.

Moses with that goal has scored in all four competitions that Chelsea have played in this season, the UEFA Champions League where he scored against Shakhtar Donetsk, the League, where he scored against Swansea City, the Capital One Cup, where he scored against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Leeds United in the last round and then the FA Cup, for which he scored on Saturday which takes his tally to five goals in all competitions.

Shola Ameobi celebrated his Super Eagles snub with a red card as Newcastle were beaten 2-0 by Championship side, Brighton & Hove Albion FC on Saturday. Ameobi who spurned the chance to represent Nigeria at the 2013 Nations Cup was shown a second yellow card in the 63rd minute and will now miss Newcastle's next league encounter against Norwich City next Saturday.

Peter Odemwingie was not listed at all for West Brom's trip to Loftus Road to take on Queens Park Rangers on Saturday. West Brom drew 1-1 with QPR.

Shane Long scored for West Brom in the 78th minute by forgotten man, Kieron Dyer levelled matters two minutes into stoppage time.

Danny Shittu was also not listed for Millwall as they got a 1-0 victory over Preston North End. Shittu has excused himself from national duty after been named in Stephen Keshi's provisional squad.

Seyi Olofinjana played all 90 minutes for Hull City in their 1-1 draw with Leyton orient. Sone Aluko was not listd for the encounter and Dickson Etuhu was also missing for Blackburn Rovers in their 2-0 win over Bristol City.


John Utaka helped Montpellier into the round of 16 of the Coupe de France competition as they beat Bourg-Péronnas 2-1 away. Utaka started the match but made way for Gaetan Charbonnier in the 60th minute. Montpellier will now meet fellow Ligue 1 campaigners, Sochaux in the next round with the tie at home.

Onyekachi Apam was on for all 90 minutes in Rennes' 2-1 loss to Lens on Sunday at the Stade Felix Bollaert.

Nancy got a good result in the competition though it was against opponents who play in Championnat de France amateur 2. The bottom placed Ligue 1 side won 5-1 though Simon Zenke who came on as a substitute did not score any of the five.

Zenke came on for Benjamin Moukandjo in the 46th minute after the Cameroonian had scored the first two goals of the encounter in the third and tenth minutes. Zenke has one league goal this season for his new club.


Uwa Echiejile came on for Marcio Mossoró in the 87th minute as Braga beat bottom-placed Moreirense 1-0 at the Estádio AXA on Sunday. Echiejile will be expected to join up with his Super Eagles team mates immediately, being already based in Portugal.
