The former Green Eagles dependable defender led Nigeria to her first major triumph in footballVictor Oduah, former captain of the Green Eagles and defender for Insurance of Benin is dead. Oduah died in Benin on Tuesday evening. He will be fondly remembered for leading the national team to its first triumph - gold at the 1973 All Africa Games that was hosted in Lagos.
Nigeria beat Guines 2-0 to win the gold medal in the football event. Oduah was discovered when he was in secondary school by West Academicals.
He played for British Petroleum FC, Lagos Executive Development Board FC and Vipers FC between 1969 and 1970 until he was invited to the Green Eagles.
