Some Nigerian strikers reminded their club managers that they are still potent in front of goal at the weekend even as the young Liege forward scored again
Victor Anichebe announced his comeback from a lengthy injury layoff in the best way possible - he scored the equaliser that brought Everton level away to West Ham on Saturday before the Toffees went on to score the winner.
Anichebe continued to be Toffees' lucky charm as his record of Everton never losing a match he scores continued with that 2-1 away win over West Ham.
Anichebe started the match after about six weeks off with a thigh injury and scored with a lovely glanced header in the 64th minute from a cross by Steven Pienaar to give the Nigerian striker his third league goal in seven matches.
Shola Ameobi helped Newcastle to return to winning ways when his solitary strike against Queens Park Rangers helped the Tyneside team to a 1-0 victory. Ameobi came on for Papiss Cisse in the 70th minute and scored 12 minutes afterwards with a crisp left footed strike.
Ameobi will be off to Faro, Portugal in January as he tries to win a place in the Super Eagles team that will represent Nigeria at the Nations Cup in South Africa. It was his first league goal since March when he scored against Sunderland.
Mikel Obi served his third and final match ban against Aston Villa on Sunday as Chelsea hammered the Villains 8-0 at Stamford Bridge.

His last effort on goal was in the 72nd minute when his right footed shot from outside the box was blocked.Odemwingie had an 88% pass completion rate and won all his aerial duels. He also had four successful dribbles.
Montpellier were brought down to earth by a shuddering 4-1 defeat away at Lille with John Utaka playing all 90 minutes. Utaka’s return to the defending champions had led to three straight victories with the Nigerian scoring in two of those games but there was none of that form on show as the defending champions were hammered by the 2009/10 champions.
Montpellier had been in good form but fell heavily at the Grande Stade Lille Métropole to the former champions on Saturday. Utaka has scored three league goals this season and Montpellier are in 11th position with 26 points.Onyekachi Apam started his second straight game as Rennes beat Ajaccio 4-2 away on Saturday. Apam who has been bedevilled with injuries this season will get his chance in the Rennes team now as John Boye, who plays in the same position of central defender will be off to the Nations Cup with Ghana.
Imoh Ezekiel continued his scoring run by netting his 11th of the campaign against Club Brugge on Sunday. Ezekiel scored his fastest goal in Belgium by getting on the score sheet 52 seconds into the game.
The Nigerian youngster was on his toes to nip the ball off the last defender and ran at the goalkeeper who saved his first effort but the rebound fell kindly into his path and he did not make any mistake.
Unfortunately, Club Brugge came back with three goals to turn that fast goal celebration into sadness for the 19-year old Nigerian striker. Standard Liege have the chance for a quick pick-up with another home game against Beerschot on Thursday.Micheal Uchebo played all 90 minutes for Cercle Brugge in a 2-2 draw at home to Waasland-Beveren while Derick Ogbu could not add to his four league goals when Oh Leuven drew 2-2 with Lierse.
Kalu Uche could do nothing for Kasimpasa as they lost 2-0 at home to Istanbul BB. Joseph Yobo was also on the losing side as Fenerbahce lost at home 3-1 to Karabukspor. Uche who was not named in the Super Eagles squad for the 2013 Afcon has nine goals in Turkey.
Meanwhile Michael Eneramo was on the winning side as Sivasspor beat Eligazpor 3-1 on Saturday. Eneramo played all 90 minutes though he could not add to his tally of five league goals.
The Turkish Super Lig will close till January 20, 2013 for the winter break.
Obafemi Martins and Levante suffered a 3-0 defeat away at Rayo Vallecano and Real Betis also lost to Mallorca at home without Nosa Igiebor, who was not listed at all.
Martins, excluded from the list of players called up by Coach Stephen Keshi for the Nations Cup has scored six goals in 13 league matches was shown a yellow card in the 29th minute for dangerous play.
The diminutive striker will also get his chance to help Levante go far in the Europa League as he will now be registered for the competition in January. He could not play the early part of the season because he arrived from Rubin Kazan after registration for the competition had been concluded.
Newly invited defender to the Super Eagles, Kenneth Omeruo played his 17th league game for Ado Den Haag in their 2-0 win over Nec Brada on Saturday.
The 19-year old has made 16 starts this season on loan from Chelsea FC – he has come on as a substitute once and has been substituted twice in the 2012/13 season. He also has a record of five yellow cards with no red cards.Last season, he played nine league games and scored twice. The defender, part of the silver-winning U-17 team in 2009 is comfortable playing as a wing back or the central defensive positions which he prefers.
