The former Enyimba striker has appealed to the football authorities to treat the domestic players very well

Former Enyimba striker, Uche Kalu has appealed to the Nigeria Premier League to ensure that players are well catered for as a new season approaches.

Kalu who now plays in Turkey with second division side, Rizespor noted that the players are the key ingredients of the game and they must be accorded every respect so that they can give their best at all times.

He told Goal.com that until the player is given his right of place, the league will not be taken seriously.

"I am always in touch with what is happening at home from Turkey. I learnt there is going to be a new committee to run the Premier League," Kalu tolda Goal.com.

"I want to appeal to them to take the issue of the Nigerian league players very serious. I played in this League for over five years before I moved to Turkey so I know what I am talking about. It is an appeal to the NPL that they should ensure that the rights of the player is protected.

"Their salaries, allowances and sign on fees for clubs that pay sign on fees should come as and when due. There is no way any player will give his best when he knows his money will not come on time.

"The kind of talents in the Nigerian league cannot be quantified. There are so many good players and they can only be encouraged if they are given a sense of belonging.

"Imagine the Nigerian league players on the field not thinking of how to get his money from his club? You can be sure he will play with his whole mind and put impressive performance at all times.

"I am not saying the players will not leave the shores of the country if they are well paid, but it should not be the lack of care that will make them dump the game in Nigeria.

"The new committee should ensure that they make the welfare of the players their priority.
"They should ensure that clubs don't owe their players at any time in the season.

"Once the players are happy, then they will give their best," said Kalu who has scored nine goals for his Turkish side.
