NFF set to resolve NPL crisis Friday - Musa Amadu

The Nigeria Football Federation has called for an emergency meeting to find solutions to the problems bedeviling the Nigeria Premier League

The Board of the Nigeria Football Federation has called for an Emergency Meeting at its Zone 7, Abuja secretariat on Friday to resolve the Nigeria Premier League imbroglio.

Sixteen out of 20 clubs met on Tuesday met in Abuja and not only impeached the elected NPL Board Chairman, Chief Rumson Baribote but also dissolved the entire Board of the Executive Committee after which they submitted their letter to that effect to the NFF and National Sports Commission.

The General Secretary while confirming receipt of the letter to Goal.com did not also confirm supporting the action of the 16 club bosses or rejecting their decision to dissolve the NPL Board.

The club chairmen and owners had met at Denis Hotel in Abuja on Tuesday where they pronounced impeachment on chairman Baribote. They also followed it up by announcing a six-man Interim Board with Mike Idoko representing South West as the chairman while Aloy Chukwuemeka (North- Central), Alhaji Sabo Babayaro (North-West), Tony Ogola (South-South), Suleiman Chindo (North-East) and Oscar Keke (South-East) are members.

“We got a letter from the clubs that participated in the meeting. We got the letter around about mid-day [Wednesday]. Clearly the Nigeria Premier League has a lot of issues to be resolved. The meeting that took place [on Tuesday] is part of the issues that need to be resolved by the Nigeria Football Federation. It is our responsibility as the national governing body to look into the issues and see how we can resolve them within the shortest possible time,” said Amadu.

“Let us not forget that the Nigeria Premier League itself is supposed to have commenced and the (NPL) Congress that was supposed to come up on Thursday is no longer going to hold until the issues are resolved.

“We are deeply concerned that these issues are still there and we have not been able to resolve them at the NPL level. That is why the Nigeria Football Federation would meet in an Emergency session. The Executive Committee of the NFF would meet on Friday and come up with decisions aimed at resolving the issues that have brought us to this state, and also making sure that within the shortest possible time commence the 2013/2013 Premier League season.

“The Premier League is actually what is suffering and we can’t allow this to continue without the problems and the issues being resolved for the good of the game in Nigeria. So in the next two days a final decision would be taken on the mater,” Amadu disclosed.
