The former Arugo FC player was committed to mother earth on Friday after weeks of speculation over his deathFormer Julius Berger defender, Obinna Nnodim who died mysteriously after his wedding was buried last Friday in Amaawon Owerri, Imo State.
Goal.com learnt that Nnodim who was preparing to go back to Thailand where he has been a player for over four years died when least expected after a flamboyant wedding ceremony in Owerri.
A lawyer and football buff in Owerri, Barrister Chike Onyeacho told Goal.com that it was a solemn sitiation at the burial as players from Owerri and its environs came to pay their last respect to their departed colleague.
"We really don't understand what happened to him. We were happy for him when he came back to active football and started playing again in Thailand.
"Most times when he comes back to Owerri, we train together, but it is so sad that a virile young man will go the way he did.
Until his death, Nnodim, 31, featured for Arugo FC of Owerri, Julius Berger, Dolphins and Sharks Football Club of Port Harcourt.
The high point of his career was when he helped Julius Berger to reach the final of the African Winners Cup now known as the Confederation Cup in 2003.
He was with the Arugo FC squad that played till they lost in the semi finals of the Federation Cup to Plateau United.
Sharks goalkeeper, Chijioke Ejiogu and Heartland defender Andrew Nwodu were in the same Arugo team alongside late Nnodim.
