Bassey Akpan eyeing successful season as Vietnamese League begins December 23

The former Heartland goalkeeper has said that he wants to have another commanding season as the league starts in the south Asian country
Former Heartland goalkeeper, Bassey Akpan has disclosed that he is prepared to do his best for his club, Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAGL) FC as the Vietnam League begins December 23.

Akpan joined the club last season and emerged the best goalkeeper in the league although his club finished in the fifth position on the log.

He told that after the pre-season camping exercise, he cannot wait for the League to start.

"I am in the right frame of mind to start the new season. I am however hoping on God for another successful season that will be better than last season where I won the best goalkeeper award," Akpan said.

"My club has prepared very well because we want to win the League trophy after coming fifth last season. I know the task is enormous now because strikers will want to find new ways of getting the ball past me.

"But I am equal to the task and I want to prove that I have also learnt new tricks to stop any ball from entering my net.

"It is going to be an exciting time in the League once again and I am happy that we have a Nigerian striker that has joined us for the new season.

"He is a former youth international, Ganiyu Oseni. It means our attack will be more potent this season.

"Now I will not miss Nigeria again because I have a brother who will always keep me company," Akpan said.

Fourteen teams play in the Vietnamese top League.
