But it was not for want of trying by the Nigerian striker. He went close on three occasions starting in the 29th minute when his left footed shot from outside the box went very close.
He had another attempt blocked in the 55th minute with Albion chasing the game – this time his right footed shot from outside the box was blocked by Chico Flores. Another long range attempt in the 66th minute also missed goal marginally.
Chelsea drew their second consecutive home game – a 0-0 draw with London neighbours, Fulham on Wednesday but the two Nigerians, Mikel Obi and Victor Moses did not see any action as they were unused substitutes.

Chinedu Obasi started his first game for Schalke this season against Hamburg on Tuesday and almost got his first goal in a 3-1 loss.
Obasi connected perfectly with a header from a corner kick by Jefferson Farfan in the 21st minute and the header was goal bound until it was headed off the line by Dennis Diekmeier.
He had another attempt in the 38th minute but his right footed shot from outside the box missed narrowly.
Another right footed attempt in the 61st minute was saved by Hamburg's goalkeeper Rene Adler and the Nigerian was replaced two minutes later by Tranquillo Barnetta.Joseph Akpala came on for Werder Bremen's Zlatko Junuzovic in the 73rd minute as Bremen were hammered 4-1 at home by Bayer Leverkusen who were without Sidney Sam for the fourth game running.
Joel Obi was not listed for Inter Milan's 1-0 away loss to Parma on Monday. The Nigerian midfielder has been missing in action since October 21 when he helped Inter beat Catania 2-0 at the San Siro. He scored against Neftci in the Europa League in early October also.
Ogenyi Onazi was listed on the bench for Lazio's 3-0 win at home against Udinese on Tuesday. The 19-year old midfielder has made only three appearances in the league for the Biancoceleste this term but has appeared six times in the Uefa Europa League.
