Nigerians Abroad: Ideye adds another two in Ukraine while Uche strikes in Turkey and Nsofor steals the limelight in Russia

The Kasimpasa striker has helped the just promoted side up the league table with his seventh goal of the season

West Brom are up to third on the log and they have Peter Odemwingie to thank partly for the meteoric rise that has seen the pre-season relegation candidates move up into the third Champions League spot.

Odemwingie set up the first Albion goal for Zoltan Gera in the 30th minute as West Brom defeated Sunderland 4-2 on Saturday at the Stadium of Light. Though Odemwingie could not continue his perfect record against the home team – he had scored four goals in four matches against Sunderland before Saturday’s match but he will have been pleased with his contribution before he was replaced.

Just before he was substituted, he went close with a left-footed dipper that did not curl enough. Odemwingie had a 83% pass completion ratio in 52 touches. He also had three shots and three successful tackles before he left the pitch.

Chelsea were held to a 0-0 draw at Stamford Bridge on Sunday with Mikel Obi making his 13th appearance for the season. Victor Moses came on in the second half to replace Eden Hazard but the Blues could not achieve their aim of inflicting City’s first defeat of the season.

There was nothing that Obafemi Martins could do as Levante were hammered 4-0 at home on Sunday by Barcelona.

The Catalan side put four past Levante's goalkeeper in the second half after a tight first half encounter. Martins had one chance to score in the first half in the 34th minute when he almost diverted Juanlu's cross cum shot with a low header but that was as good as it got for the Valencia-based side. Thus the Nigerian striker remains with five goals in nine matches. 

Real Betis got the better of defending champions, Real Madrid 1-0 on Saturday. Nosa Igiebor made an appearance in the 81st minute as Betis clung on to the first half goal scored by Benat in the 18th minute.


Obinna Nsofor scored the winning goal for Locomotiv Moscow against Krasnodar on Saturday at the Stadion Lokomotiv. Nsofor scored the third goal in the 3-2 win.

Nsofor scored through a brilliant free kick from all of 35 yards in the 51 minute to hand the hosts all three points. This was Nsofor’s second goal of the season – his first goal coming against Terek Grozny in September. He was however substituted by Alexander Samedov in the 80th minute.

League leaders, CSKA Moscow are away to Zenit St Petersburg on Monday with Ahmed Musa leading the line for the table toppers.


Nancy started the weekend bottom of Ligue 1 and their 1-1 home draw against Ajaccio did not change the fact. Simon Zenke started his second game consecutively but could not add to his one goal and he was substituted in the 46th minute by Benjamin Moukandjo.

Sochaux lost 1-0 at home to Nice on Saturday and King Osanga did not make the squad.

Montpellier are steadily getting their season on track and they added another three points on Sunday with a 1-0 win over Bordeaux. John Utaka came on for GaetanCharbonnier in the 73rd minute. Utaka has scored one goal in a season disrupted by various injuries.

Rennes lost 1-0 at home to Evian on Saturday with Onyekachi Apam named on the bench.


Werder Bremen drew 1-1 away to Wolfsburg on Saturday with Joseph Akpala making his customary one minute show in the 90th minute as he replaced Nil Petersen.

Bayer Leverkusen won 2-1 away at Hoffenheim on Sunday and they are still without injured Sidney Sam who has scored four times in five appearances this season.

2. Bundesliga

Former U-23 striker, Anthony Ujahhelped himself to two goals on Friday against Bochum t0 ease the pressure of relegation on the team that was relegated from the Bundesliga at the end of last season with Cologne now 10th on the table with 20 points.

Ujah, who played for Mainz 05 last season in the Bundesliga scored in the 11th and 84th minutes and was replaced in the 86th minute by KacperPrzybylko.

The 22-year old Ujah scored two goals in the Bundesliga has now scored five goals in 11 appearances for Cologne this season.


Brown Ideye added another two goals to his kitty on Sunday as Dynamo Kiev hammered neighbours, Arsenal Kyiv 4-0.Ideye scored the second goal in the 44th minute and the fourth goal in added time.

Ideye has now scored 12 goals in 16 league games and four goals in nine matches in Europe.

Taye Taiwo and Lukman Haruna also featured with Taiwo playing all 90 minutes and Lukman replaced in the 60th minute by Andrei Yarmolenko. The fourth Nigerian at Dynamo, Ayila Yussuf was not listed for the match.


Imoh Ezekiel scored in the 21st and 33rd minutes in Standard Liege's 3-0 win over Lierse on Friday to take his league goals tally to seven goals in 13 matches. The former 36 Lions striker was replaced by Luis Seijas in the 80th minute.

Derick Ogbu came off the bench to help OH Leuven salvage a 1-1 draw away to Genk on Sunday. Ogbu, who has scored four league goals so far came off the bench in the 82nd minute for Ovidy Karuru. Leuven were awarded a penalty in added time which was dispatched by Gambian, Ebrahima Savaneh.

Standard Liege are seventh on the table while Leuven are eighth, one point behind Liege on 25 points from 17 matches.


Kalu Uche continued his impressive scoring form for Kasimpasa on Saturday as they were held 1-1 at the RecepTayyipErdoğanStadyumu by Orduspor.

Uche scored in the 40th minute forKasimpasa, while Orduspor got their equaliser in the 83rd minute.

the Nigerian has now scored seven goals in the league in 13 appearances after his move from Espanyol at the beginning of the season.

Nigeria's highest goal scorer in Turkey last season, Michael Eneramo notched his fifh goal of the current campaign in Sivasspor's 4-2 win at home on Sunday over Kayserispor.

Eneramo scored the third goal of the match in the 38th minute as Sivasspor moved to seventh on the table.

Joseph Yobo added another 90 minutes under his belt as Fenerbahçe moved to second place with a 4-1 demolition of Gençlerbirliği on Sunday at the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadyumu in Istanbul.
