Austin Ejide will lead the Eagles against Venezuela

The Israeli-based goalkeeper has been chosen by the national coach to lead the national team against their South American opponents

Austin Ejide has been chosen to lead the Super Eagles against the La Vinotinto of Venezuela on Wednesday evening in Miami, USA.

Ejide has been in the national team since 2002 when he and current number one choice, Vincent Enyeama, were drafted into the team by Adegboye Onigbinde.

Enyeama has had Ejide as understudy for a long time though during the managerial reign of Berti Vogts, Ejide became the undisputed choice for the team.

Meanwhile, new call-up, Shola Ameobi, has said he was simply delighted to be part of the Nigerian set up for the first time and hopes it turns out well on Wednesday.

“It is good to be here and I will learn to speak Pidgin English as the players have directed”, he joked after his former teammate at Newcastle, Obafemi Martins challenged him to start speaking in Pidgin English, which Keshi has adopted as the official language each time the team is in camp.

Major League Soccer import, Bright Dike of Portland Timberwolves was also ecstatic about his invitation though he failed in his attempt to speak the Ibo language.

“I understand it but don’t speak fluently, it will get better now that I will start coming to Nigeria”, he said amidst smiles.

Obafemi Martins, who is making a return to team vowed to make the encounter one that will make him get a place in the squad for the Nations Cup coming up in January.

“My return is for real and Nigerians will see”, he said and he proved his sharpness amongst the attackers in camp as he scored incessantly in Monday’s evening training.

The game is scheduled for the Marlins Stadium in Miami for 8pm local time which is 2am Thursday morning in Nigeria.
