thumbnail Hello,

Nigerians in Eastern Europe got on the score sheet on the weekend to lead their sides to wins in their respective leagues

ENGLAND

Peter Odemwingie started on the bench after his two-goal salvo against Southampton, as West Brom continued their fine run in the Premiership with a 2-1 away win over Wigan on Saturday.

Odemwingie came off the bench for Shane Long in the 69th minute but he did not have any appreciable impact on the match afterwards.

The dismal performance in the league continued for the Nigerian duo of Victor Moses and Mikel Obi as Chelsea were held 1-1 by Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Obi started the match and has surely improved on his forward movement on the pitch as he was found in advanced areas throughout the match as he searches for his first ever league goal. Moses, having saved Chelsea in midweek in the Champions League was introduced into the fray in the 77th minute for Oscar but this time there was no late heroics from the Nigerian.

Obi got a yellow card in the 79th minute with 65 touches of the ball and an 88% pass completion rate. Moses had 10 touches in his brief time on the pitch. Chelsea are now third on the table with 24 points, three off leaders, Manchester United. Chelsea are away to West Brom next Saturday.
FRANCE

Former youth international, Simon Zenke scored his first goal in Ligue 1 after returning to the country from Turkey though it was not enough to rescue Nancy from a 3-1 defeat to Rennes on Friday.

Zenke, starting his first match, equalised for Nancy in the 50th with a right footed shot from the left side of the box into the top left corner.

He went close with a header in the 73rd minute. He then drew a foul in the box in the 81st minute which resulted in a penalty but unfortunately Paul Alo'o Efoulou failed to convert.

Simon Zenke capped his man of the match performance with another right footer in added time which hit the bar.

Zenke had 48 touches on the ball and completed his passes 64% of the time. He also had three shots on target and scored one.

Onyekachi Apam, called up by the Super Eagles to face Venezuela on Wednesday, was an unused substitute for Rennes who moved up to fifth on the table.

Montpellier drew 1-1 with league leaders, PSG on Sunday but John Utaka is still out injured.

GERMANY

Sidney Sam was missing in the Bayer Leverkusen side that lost 3-1 to Wolfsburg on Sunday. Sam has just announced that he will be willing to play for Nigeria and has scored four times this season in five appearances.

Chinedu Obasi is still a no-show for Schalke but his side beat Werder Bremen 2-1 on Saturday at the Veltins Arena.

Joseph Akpala came on for Bremen in the 81st minute to replace Zlatko Junuzovic. The Nigerian has one goal in eight league appearances.

RUSSIA

Ahmed Musa scored two goals for CSKA Moscow on Saturday as they beat Kuban Krasnodar 3-1 away from home. Musa scored the first goal on 35 minutes and opened the scoring in the second half in the 51st minute after Krasnodar had equalised through a penalty in the 44th minute.

Rasmus Elm added the third for the league leaders in the 56th minute. CSKA have consolidated their lead on the table ahead of Samuel Eto'o's Anzhi Makhachkala.

Musa's first goal was a neat one-time left foot finish across the keeper after he had been put through by Alan Dzagoev.

The second goal was a rebound off the goalkeeper from a shot by Dzagoev and the Nigerian was the quickest to react and he steered the ball past the keeper with his right foot.

Musa now has seven goals in 13 league matches and one goal in two Cup matches after replacing the injured Seydou Doumbia as the focal point of attack.

SPAIN

Nosa Igiebor came off the bench for Real Betis but they lost 2-1 to Granada on Friday. Igiebor came on for Juan Carlo in the 83rd minute while Odion Ighalo was an unused substitute for Granada. Betis stay fourth on the table as Malaga also lost while Granada jumped up to 15th.

Obafemi Martins was on from the start for Levante against Real Madrid on Sunday in a rain drenched encounter.

Martins could not put his speed to work as the pitch did not allow any kind of passing game as it was hit and run which Madrid adapted to better than the home team. The Nigerian has scored four goals in seven appearances this season as Levante remain in sixth position.
UKRAINE

Brown Ideye returned to scoring goals in the league with a double in Dynamo Moscow's 5-0 away annihilation of Metalurh Zaporizhia. In the 64th minute, Ideye got on the end of a Lukman Haruna cut back to make it 3-0 to the visitors.

He followed this up with another in the 74th minute, when he pounced on a rebound off a shot by Dudu and hammered the ball into the net. Ideye’s goals brought double the number of goals they scored this season.

Lukman Haruna replaced Niko Kranjcar in the 63rd minute and set up goals for his compatriot, Ideye and Andrei Yarmolenko in the 87th minute. Taye Taiwo and Yussuf Ayila were not listed for the encounter.

TURKEY

Kalu Uche added to his goal tally in the 1-1 draw between Kasimpasa and Antalyaspor at the Recep Tayyip Erdoğan Stadyumu on Saturday. The Nigerian striker rescued his side with a penalty goal in the 90th minute after Antalyaspor, who fielded Isaac Promise, had taken the lead in the 77th minute.

Kalu played all 90 minutes while Promise was replaced in the 65th minute. Kalu now has six goals to his name while Promise has scored three goals in nine appearances.

Michael Eneramo played all 90 minutes for Sivasspor in their 1-0 win over Eskişehirspor on Friday at the Eylul Stadymu. Sivasspor scored in the 15th minute through Czech international, Jan Rajnoch.

Eneramo has scored six times in the new season with his last goal coming against Gungorenspor in the Cup on October 31.

BELGIUM

Imoh Ezekiel was started from the bench for Standard Liege in their 2-1 loss away to Lokeren on Friday.

Ezekiel got on the pitch in the 57th minute when he substituted Luis Seijas. But the youngster could not help his side as soon after they conceded the second goal. The former 36 Lions striker has scored five goals in 11 appearances.

Michael Uchebo was dropped to the bench, he came on in the 73rd minute but he could not help Cercle Brugge get the winner against Gent.

The basement side needed two goals in the 58th minute by Rudy and Mushaga Bakenga in the 71st to rescue a point. Cercle Brugge remain in last position on the table with eight points from 15 matches - midway into their 30-match season. Uchebo is yet to score in 13 appearances.
