The visitors' coach says they came to beat the Akure Gunners in Ijebu Ode and is going home dejected after the 3-3 stalemate
Badri noted in the post match interview that he is a sad coach because their intention was to beat Sunshine Stars at home.
"I will not say I am happy because every preparation was for victory against the home side, Sunshine Stars.
"But we allowed them to come into the game after a 2-0 lead in the first half. We did a lot of preparation because we watched Sunshine in a lot of games.
"It was a very detailed preparation because we took into cognisance the way they play and how the players respond to match situations.
"This is a game we should have won easily. I decided to go for victory because it will reduce the burden of a outright victory at home in the second leg.
"If we had won it will also have given us an added advantage. But I want to say that my boys did very well.
"They showed championship stuff and can get the job done in Cairo in the second leg," Badri said.
Esperance are the defending champions of the Caf Champions League.
