The second annual Copa Lagos will feature teams from Africa, South America, Asia and from Europe
Lebanon has been announced to be the third country that will be taking part in the 2012 edition of Copa Lagos that has been scheduled for December 14 – 16 at the Eko Atlantic City in Lagos. This was disclosed in Lagos by the CEO of Kinetic Sports, Samson Adamu.
The other countries confirmed for the tournament that was won by Nigeria’s Sand Eagles last year, are Argentina and Nigeria. The fourth country is yet to be revealed.
Adamu said Lebanon’s team was invited because they have an exciting style of play that will add to the spectacle that is Copa Lagos and because of a big contingent of Lebanese people in Lagos.
“We believe fans of Copa Lagos will enjoy watching Lebanon play as they are an exciting team,” Adamu told Goal.com.
“We also wanted to acknowledge the Lebanese community in Nigeria by giving them an opportunity to watch their team,” Adamu added.
And the star of the Lebanese team is Haitham Fattal who finished as the highest goal scorer at the Asian Beach Games with 11 goals.
Adamu said the idea of Copa Lagos is to raise the consciousness of beach soccer in the country and make Lagos ready to host the world.
“We want to grow the tournament so much that the African qualifiers and eventually the World Cup can be held in Lagos.
“There is also the beach soccer tour that only berths in South Africa now, Lagos will soon join that cadre – that is why we are deeply serious about making Copa Lagos an annual event of choice in the world,” Adamu concluded.
