Coach Peter Dedevbo, national U-17 women’s team coach has revealed that he would want his girls to get a victory over France on Thursday at the on-going FIFA U-17 World Cup to give a befitting 52ndanniversary present to Nigerians.
Dedevbo revealed this in Baku, Azerbaijan, where the Nigerian team is camped towards their quarter final match against France on Thursday.
“I wish Nigeria a happy 52nd birthday. We want to win our match against France and dedicate it to God first, and present it as a birthday gift to Nigeria for her anniversary,” Dedevbo told NAN.
“I want Nigerians back at home to pray for the Flamingos and wish us luck in our match against France on Thursday.
“We thank God for being able to qualify for the quarter-finals of the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
“We’ve been working very hard to make sure that we present a good and winning team for this competition.
“Nothing less than victory is expected from our Thursday’s match against France because we have all it takes to defeat France.
With the quarter final ouster in 2010 to South Korea preying on his mind, the Bayelsa Queens coach said they are ready to go further this time around.
“We are not ready to make the same mistake in Azerbaijan. For this reason, we are working very hard on the team to make sure we defeat France come Thursday.
And the coach of the French team, Ferrier Guy has come out to say that Nigeria will be difficult to beat.
“All I know is that Nigeria is a very good team and I am waiting for the great day when we meet them,” said Guy to NAN.
But he is also preparing for victory as he said, “If I don’t want to win, I will not be in this competition.”
The match kicks off at the Tofig Bahramov Stadium on Thursday at 4pm, Nigeria time.
