Officials of the Uyo side said that some coaches have indicated interest in handling the team after Solomon Ogbeide left for Warri Wolves

Eight coaches have applied for the vacant job as Akwa United coach after former coach, Solomon Ogbeide left for Warri Wolves at the end of the season.

Technical Director of the Uyo based side, Charles Bassey told Goal.com that the team will soon interview the coaches to pick the most suitable that will take over from Ogbeide for next season's campaign.

“I can tell you that we have received application from eight coaches who have shown interest in handling the team," said Bassey to Goal.com.

"The number of coaches who applied means they find Akwa United a worthy team to do business with.

“Very soon, we are going to trim down the number to three and then conduct an interview so as to pick the coach that will take over from Solomon Ogbeide.

“Akwa United will need a good coach that should start work very soon. There is no time again because we must start preparation so that we can recruit good players for next season.

“We are going to challenge for the league title next season. And if we must challenge, we must get a good coach and also recruit quality players.

“We did our best last season and we hope to improve on our performance next season,” added the former Nigerian International. Akwa United finished in the 12th position with 50 pointsin the just concluded league season.
