The Nigerian striker got two goals against Rostov after his excellent performance against Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League
Emmanuel Emenike scored two goals against Rostov on Sunday to take his league goals tally to four in eight matches but he still relishes last Wednesday’s clash with Barcelona and Lionel Messi in the UEFA Champions League
Emenike created the first goal for Spartak against Barcelona with his powerful running that sparked Dani Alves’ own goal believes their not taking anything from Nou Camp helped the players adjust to the league game against Rostov on Sunday.
“We knew that the game with Rostov- is the most important match of the championship, and we had no lack of motivation,” Emenike told championat.com.
“Maybe there was that impression that we were lacking motivation because we were lacklustre in the opening minutes of the game. But we gradually built up the momentum and got the necessary results
Before the two goals against Rostov, he had scored just two goals in the league.
“Really, it has weighed on me. I want to score in every match, but in the previous games, I have had problems with the set-up.
“Well, today I scored twice! I hope the fight with Rostov will be a starting point, and then I'll score goals more often. Yet the most important thing - it is not that Emenike scored, but the victory of Spartak Moscow.
He also reiterated that he was delighted to have played on the same pitch with Messi, the best player in the world.
“Of course, playing against the best player in the world is an honour.
“I respect Messi as a player, but do not understand how you can learn something in such circumstances from a football player who plays against you,” Emenike concluded.
The Nigerian international scored 13 goals in 22 appearances last season for Spartak Moscow.
