Dynamo Kiev's hotshot striker, Brown Ideye and on-loan defender Taye Taiwo have stated that PSG will be a tough opposition at the Parc Des Princes on Tuesday in the first match of the group stage of the 2012/13 Uefa Champions League season.
The two Nigerians incidentally have played at the stadium before in their stints in Ligue 1. Ideye starred for Soachaux for three seasons while Taiwo was with Marseille for six years.
“[PSG] has a special place in French football. The club and the past represented the formidable force," Ideye told his club’s official website.
“Now, after a significant increase of [funding] the Parisians generally can count on a lot of things. But we believe in ourselves and we do not intend to give in.
He added that PSG’s stadium is a unique arena. “Parc Des Princes is a football arena with a unique aura. Playing in the French championship, I was just going out on the lawn of the stadium. To play on it is always a pleasure. I hope this will be the case this time.
He added that the spirit that got them into the group stage is needed to also qualify for the next round.
“We are fully able to get into the playoffs. In the group stage we got two complicated rivals.
“So if we come together, we listen to the coach and play as a unit, we can leave the group.
Taiwo played for PSG’s bitter rivals Olympique Marseille and understands what the atmosphere will be like on Tuesday.
Taiwo said, “Our game against the Parisians is going to be difficult.”
Though he believes that Dynamo Kiev have a strong group of players who can weather the storm.
“It all depends on us. If we work hard, and everyone will go all out on the field, then I think we can, at least, overcome the group stage.
He mentioned players like former AC Milan team mate, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Thiago Silva as players to watch out for.
“This is a very good team. This season they have added several new artists of the highest level. I can highlight Ibrahimovic, Thiago Silva and Alex.
“They also have a very experienced coach, so our confrontation with the Parisians is going to be difficult. But the team has to go on the field and give all the power to achieve a positive result,” Taiwo added.
