Nigerians Abroad: Kalu Uche scores hattrick in Turkey

The Super Eagles midfielder introduces self with a veritable treble in the Super Lig as his compatriots Isaac Promise, Sone Aluko and Ahmed Musa also hit the net at the weekend

ENGLAND

PREMIERSHIP

Peter Odemwingie assisted for the first goal against Everton on Saturday. The Nigerian, who did not play against Spurs last weekend because of a thigh injury, gave a precise cross in the 65th minute for Shane Long to open the score, seven minutes after he came on for Graham Dorrans. Gareth McAuley added the second from a header to give the Baggies the victory and a handsome seven points from three matches. West Brom beat Liverpool 3-0 on the opening day, drew 1-1 with Spurs last week and added the 2-0 victory over a strong Everton side to portend great things for the club under new manager Steve Clarke.

Victor Anichebe made a substitute appearance for Everton when he replaced Phil Neville in the second half but he could not get on the score sheet as he did in mid-week when Everton beat Leyton Orient 5-0 in the League Cup.

CHAMPIONSHIP

Nigerian left winger Omatsone Aluko scored his first goal for new side Hull City in their 3-1 win over Blackburn Rovers. Aluko, who transferred from Glasgow Rangers during the summer, scored the equaliser for Hull in the 29th minute to cancel out Chris Eagles’ 17th minute opener at the K.C Stadium. It was Aluko’s fourth appearance for the club. His compatriot Seyi Olofinjana played all 90 minutes for Hull.


FRANCE

John Utaka played all 90 minutes for Montpellier on Saturday as they recorded thir first win of the season away against Sochaux. Utake is yet to score in the new season but has provided two assists. King Osanga is yet to feature for Sochaux this season.

Simon Zenke did not play as Nancy lost 3-0 away to Lorient.

UKRAINE

Brown Ideye and Taye Taiwo were on for 90 minutes for Dynamo Kiev in their 3-1 away loss to league leaders Shakhtar Donetsk. Ideye got a yellow card in the 35th minute and could not add to his seven league goals. Ayila Yussuf was an unused substitute while Lukman Haruna was not listed. Dynamo dropped to third on the table, six points behind Donetsk.

Chornomorets beat Zorya 2-1 on Saturday with Zorya parading Lucky Idahor for the whole match. Idahor has scored two goals this season.

Michael Odibe was back on the substitute's bench when his club, Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk drew 2-2 away against Vorskla.
TURKEY
Super Eagles' Kalu Uche scored a hat-trick on Saturday to open his goals account for his new club Kasimpasa in a 3-0 win over Elazigspor.

The 29 year-old struck first with an impressive header in the 31st minute, before doubling his tally from the spot on 56 minutes. The former Espanyol star was in the right place at the right time to cap the win in the 83rd minute.

Former U-23 captain Isaac Promise also scored for his new club Antalyaspor to earn a 1-0 victory away to Istanbul BB.

RUSSIA

Ahmed Musa scored to help CSKA Moscow beat Krasnodar 1-0 away in the Russian Premier League on Sunday. It is Musa’s second goal in two league matches as he tries to replace the injured Seydou Doumbia, who led the charts with 28 goals last season. Musa opened his account for the season last week against Krylya Sovetov.

Victor Obinna and Emmanuel Emenike came on for Locomotiv Moscow and Spartak Moscow respectively in Locomotiv's 2-1 win on Sunday. Obinna is yet to score this season while Emenike has scored just a goal but has scored also in the Champions League to help his team into the group stage.

BELGIUM

Nigerian-born Funso Ojo opened the scoring for Beerschot in their 2-0 away win over Mechelen on Saturday. Derick Ogbu played all 90 minutes as his team OH Leuven was held away 1-1 by Lierse.

Former VVV Venlo striker Michael Uchebo played his sixth game for Cercle Brugge against Waasland-Beveren on Saturday which they lost 2-0. Uchebo is yet to score for his new club.

Kennedy Nwanganga came off the bench to help Genk get a 2-2 draw away against defending champions Anderlecht on Sunday. Nwanganga is yet to score this season after four league games.

Imoh Ezekiel started his fourth game but could not add to his three goals and he was substituted in the 75th minute in Standard Liege's 4-2 away loss to current league leaders Club Brugge on Sunday. Ezekiel has three goals in four games.

SOUTH AFRICA

Felix Obada played for Moroka Swallows as they won away against Orlando Pirates who also had former Super Eagle Onyekachi Okonkwo who made a substitute appearance in the 57th minute for his second spell with the Pirates. 22 year-old Obada is in his fifth season in South Africa. Greg Etafia was not listed for Swallows.

Super Eagles defender Soriola Gege played his second game for Free State Stars in their goalless draw against Kaizer Chiefs on Saturday.

ITALY

Ogenyi Onazi continued his impressive start to the season when he made another substitute appearance for Lazio in their 3-0 victory over Palermo. The former junior international followed on last weekend’s showing with another one when he replaced Stefano Mauri in the 83rd minute. The 19 year-old versatile midfielder is comfortable with both feet and great things are expected of him as he progresses in the team.

Joel Obi is still out injured at the moment as his team Inter Milan lost at home to Roma 3-1 on Sunday. Inter have strengthened their midfield with the acquisition of Walter Gargano and the return of Phillipe Coutinho from Espanyol.E

ROMANIA

John Ibeh of Pandurii Târgu Jiu scored his fourth goal of this campaign against Rapid Bucharest on Saturday evening. Ibeh was on target in the 57th minute. Pandurii Târgu Jiu have 19 points from seven games, six points ahead of Steau Bucureşti who are in second place.
