The Nigerian representatives lost away to Esperance to set up a date with the champions from the Democratic Republic of Congo
Sunshine FC of Akure could not get their revenge against Esperance on Sunday as they lost 1-0 to the defending champions to finish second in their group.
Though they had qualified for the semi-final before their final match because of the disqualification of Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia due to crowd trouble, they wanted to avenge their 2-0 loss in the first leg but could not.
Sunshine will now meet TP Mazembe of the Democratic Republic of Congo in the semi-finals of the CAF Champions League. TP Mazembe beat Al Ahly of Egypt 2-0 in their Group B top of the table clash to secure first place in Lubumbashi on Sunday. The other semi-final pairing will see Esperance confront Al Ahly in a North African derby.
The first legs of the semi-finals have been scheduled for between October 5 and October 7 with Sunshine playing the first leg at home and that will be at the Dipo Dina Stadium in Ijebu-Ode.
