The league leaders have been accused of using tactics that are not in the book to gain the three points
Sunshine Stars 18-year old midfielder, Ekundayo Ojo, is not totally convinced about the superiority of Enugu Rangers over the other teams in the league but believes the league winners will not be known until the final day.
“I can’t tell you that Rangers will win the league until the last day but in our match against them last week, the referee did all he could to frustrate us,” Ojo to Goal.com
“He (referee) made sure that on all 50-50 balls, he gave them the advantage and brandished yellow cards at our players at every opportunity.
“He also awarded them a penalty kick for a foul that was committed outside the box.
“Knowing that Rangers are trying to win the league after such a long time, they used everything they had to make sure that that they beat us,” Ojo added.
Sunshine’s aim of another continental ticket was then jolted on Sunday when they could only manage a 1-1 draw against Kwara United at the Dipo Dina Stadium in Ijebu-Ode, their temporary abode.
But Ojo said they were unlucky not to have taken the three points.
“We played really well and it is a pity that we drew that game. We created a lot of scoring chances but unfortunately did not score.
“We even had a penalty that we could not convert which just showed how unlucky we were. It is so painful but we have to look forward,” he added.
Sunshine Stars remain in seventh position with 53 points and just a game to go in the season. They now need to shrug off their league form and make sure they get something from their match on Friday against Aso Chlef in Algeria.
