Three players of CAF Champions League campaigners, Sunshine Stars have been released to their club as they have an engagement in Algeria next Friday against ASO Chlef. Sunshine Stars skipper and regular Super Eagles defender, Godfrey Oboabona, midfielder Izu Azuka and goalkeeper Moses Ocheje were the players released.

The other players of the team and the coaching crew departed Abuja for Niamey on Sunday evening due to a review of the travelling plans by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

The team was expected to travel on Monday but the football house moved the trip to Sunday evening after re-examining the logistics and security implications of the team traveling by road through Sokoto to Niamey.

The team made of 23 players, technical crew and back-room staff eventually left the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport for Niger on Sunday evening for the friendly that will take place on Wednesday in Niamey.

The team is expected in Niger on Sunday evening and start training for the friendly on Monday.

“We will have at least two quality training sessions to prepare for the match and that will help the boys to be ready for the task ahead and particularly, the upcoming Nations Cup qualifier against Liberia in September,” Stephen Keshi said.

The three players are expected to re-join the team on after their Friday excursion to Algeria to prepare for the Nations Cup qualifier against Liberia next month in Monrovia.
