The current highest goal scorer in the league gives kudos to the national team coach for international exposure for home-based players
As the camp of the Super Eagles reached five days on Friday, one of the new invitees, Sibi Gwar has praised Stephen Keshi for giving the local players the chance to play and excel in the national team.
Gwar, the leading goal scorer in the Nigeria Premier League with 16 goals said this at a media parley organised for players of the national team.
"We (local players] now know that the door of the national team is open as long as you are able to prove your worth."
"I want to thank the coaching crew for giving me my chance to show that I can contribute my own quota to the national team," added Gwar.
Keshi also used the parley to reiterate his stand that the national team will fare better when there is a standard team of home-based players.
"If we do not use players from our league then what is the league for," Keshi asked.
"We might as well cancel the league so that we use only players from foreign leagues.
"I came into the national team as a home-based player and we all know how strong our teams were," Keshi added.
The Super Eagles continue their training towards the friendly match against the Mena of Niger Republic in Niamey next week.
