The Super Eagles on Wednesday in Abuja beat Police Machine FC, FCT Federation Cup champions 2-0.
This was in a friendly match which is a tune-up for the friendly against Niger Republic next week and ultimately for the two-legged Nations Cup qualifier against Liberia next month in Liberia.
The match was played at the FIFA Goal Project site and was watched by Nigeria Football Federation’s Technical Committee Chairman, Christopher Green and former international Siji Lagunju, who is an NFF scout.
The Eagles' defence line was made up of Godfrey Oboabona, Azubuike Egwueke, Papa Idris and Juwon Oshaniwa and they successfully rebuffed the early forays of the Police team.
An Eagles’ forward should have scored in the fifth minute but he wasted the chance. He had other chances in the seventh and in the 20th minute, which he also missed.
Oshaniwa was fouled on an overlapping run in the 30th minute which resulted in a free kick. Uche stepped up to blast home the kick and partly make up for his earlier misses. The half ended 1-0.
The Eagles made wholesome changes in the second half as Moses Ocheje replaced Daniel Akpeyi in goal and only two players remained from the starting eleven. NPL’s top scorer, Sibi Gwar was also introduced but was substituted midway into the second half.
The Eagles had to wait until the 89th minute to add a second goal. Sunshine Stars winger, Izu Azuka combined beautifully with Ahmed Sanni who blasted a shot past the Police FC goalkeeper.
At the end of the match Stephen Keshi said he has made necessary observations and corrections will be continuous in the team ahead of next week’s match against the Mena of Niger.
