Governor Rotimi Amaechi clears air on Dolphins/Sharks sale

The Rivers State Governor has stated that he was misquoted in the report that clubs will be put up for sale

Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi has cleared the air on reports making the rounds that he has put up Dolphins and Sharks for sale.

News carried on a popular sports website indicated that the Rivers State government had put up both Premier League clubs for sale.

However, the Governor while speaking on a state-owned radio station in Port Harcourt said he is not aware of any plans to sell the club.

“I am not aware that they want to sell both clubs but the truth is that if a buyer comes along I am going to sell,” Amaechi said.

“The expenditure for both clubs is huge every month and if a buyer comes tomorrow morning I will be glad to sell.

“We have put up the clubs for sale. And we have not complained to anybody that we cannot finance the two teams,” the Governor said.

Sharks have been run by the Rivers State government since 1972 while Eagle Cement was bought over from Eastern Bulkcem Company in 1999 and renamed Dolphins.
