The captain of Sunshine Stars has said their game plan worked the Algerian club side in their 2-0 victory on Sunday in Ijebu Ode
Nigeria's Caf Champions League campaigners, Sunshine Stars said after their 2-0 win against Aso Chlef that they won because they stuck to their game plan and tactics all through the game played at the Dipo Dina Stadium, Ijebu Ode on Sunday afternoon.
Team captain, Godfrey Oboabuna told Goal.com in a brief telephone chat shortly after goals from Dele Olorundare and Izu Azuka guaranteed their first win of the campaign on Sunday.
Oboabuna noted that despite playing the first half goalless, they were not perturbed at all during the half time pep talk.
He stressed the resolve of the Akure Gunners to go all out in search of the three points in Algeria during the second leg in a fortnight.
"We got our first victory of the campaign and we are happy about it. The win never came easy but we are grateful to God that we did what we ought to do to record maximum points.
“We are going to start training for the second leg and we are not going to spare the Algerians in their home in the return leg because we must qualify to the semi final," Oboabona, who is a defender with the Super Eagles told Goal.com.
Sunshine are now with four points from three matches and they gained all their points haul in the last two matches after a bad start at home to cup holders, Esperance of Tunisia a month ago. They however revived their fortunes with a battling goalless draw away at Etoile du Sahel of Tunisia before the victory over Aso Chlef.
