Akwa United goalkeeper, Femi Thomas has told Goal.com that the Uyo-based side will qualify to play in the continent next year after winning their remaining two games in the season.
Akwa United are presently fifth on the league table with 54 points but Thomas noted that Akwa United have a good team to achieve that ambition.
"I am confident that we can still qualify to play in the continent. We have 54 points and we have two games to go," Thomas said.
"We have a good team that is well motivated by the State Government and the club management so I am extremely optimistic that we can get the six points in the last two games of the season.
"The players know what is at stake and we are going to do our best. A lot of people have said we are newly promoted from the National League and we should stay for another season in the Premier League.
"But my question is when is the right time to aspire to play in the continent? The chance is there for us and we are going to use it very well.
"We have done this season because some of the clubs that gained promotion with us are threatened with relegation.
"We are eagerly awaiting the matches and everything will work well for us," Thomas added. Akwa United are fifth on the NPL table with 54 points.
