thumbnail Hello,

The Imo State side have started well in their quest to retain the Federation Cup trophy as other teams stumble

Federation Cup holders Heartland FV begun their quest to successfully defend the trophy won last year with a 1-0 victory over Plateau United in Port Harcourt on Monday evening.

Brendan Ogbu got the only goal of the encounter in the 79th minute of the gritty affair played at the Sharks Stadium.

The former Enugu Rangers striker said after the tie that it was a very difficult match but was happy his goal got his team the needed three points ahead of their clash with Nasarawa United on Wednesday.

Heartland Assistant Coach, Ramson Madu also told that they have watched Nasarawa United and that they are plotting how best to beat the team from Lafia on Wednesday.

Said  Madu:" We worked hard for the win and I am happy we won against a very stubborn side like Plateau United. We are ready to take our games as they come as we march towards another berth in the final.

"We were lucky to see the game between Gombe United and Nasarawa United and though Nasarawa United are a very good side, we will work on what we got of them and plan on how well to beat them to guarantee our spot in the last 8."

Meanwhile, the other tie between Gombe United and Nasarawa United ended goalless also at the Port Harcourt centre. The Desert Scorpions face Plateau United by 4pm on Wednesday.

Rangers and Sharks started their Group C affair in Ibadan on a not too impressive note with a loss and a draw respectively.

The Flying Antelopes fell by a lone goal to nil to Nigeria National League side, Prime FC of Oshogbo while the Blue Angels were held to a 1-1 draw by giant killers Dynamite Force of Benin in the second game.

The media officer of Rangers, Foster Chime stressed that the club would recover from the setback to go all out for a win against Sharks on Wednesday.

At Lagos centre, Kwara United could not withstand the firepower of the El Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri as the Afonja Warriors lost 1-0 at the Agege Stadium.

In the second match of the centre, Kano Pillars were held to another score draw by Crown of Ogbomosho.

A new twist came up in the Bauchi centre when news filtered in that Samba of Enugu arrived the State on Monday to honour their Group matches.

According to the draws, Samba will entertain Lobi Stars on Tuesday while Enyimba will be on standby.
