Federation Cup: Heartland begin title defence against Plateau United
The Naze Millionaires will play the giant killers in one of the games of match day one of the Group Stage of the 2012 Federation Cup on Monday.
The Group Stage of the 2012 Federation Cup competition starts today with interesting fixtures lined up across Port Harcourt, Bauchi, Ibadan and Lagos.Cup holders Heartland of Owerri will begin their quest to successfully defend the trophy won last year against Plateau United in the Port Harcourt centre by 2pm on Monday.
Plateau United eliminated Dolphins of Port Harcourt to get to this stage and will fancy their chances against the inconsistent Naze Millionaires who struggled to impress against Unicem Rovers in the Round of 32 played in Aba.
Nasarawa United and Gombe United will square up immediately after the Heartland and Plateau cracker in the second game of the day.
In Group A which has its centre in Bauchi, Enyimba and Lobi Stars will entertain each other to determine the group winners after the two booked tickets to the last eight with the withdrawal of Warri Wolves and Samba FC. The game also holds on Monday by 4pm.
Crown of Ogbomosho have a tough task on their hands after they were drawn to play Kano Pillars in the first match of the Lagos centre on Monday while Kwara United will slug it out with El Kanemi Warriors in the second match of the day. Both ties take place at the Agege Stadium in Lagos.
In Ibadan, Enugu Rangers' quest to nick a double will be put to test when they tango with Prime FC of Oshogbo while Dynamite Force will recoil to spray Sharks some of their explosives when they file out in the second match billed also for Monday.
The top two teams from each zone will qualify for the quarter finals with the final fixed for August 26 in Lagos.
The eventual winners will represent Nigeria in the second tier African club competition, the Caf Confederation Cup next season.
