Forgotten Super Eagles forward Obafemi Martins put up a great display for Rubin Kazan to help them lift the Russian Super Cup title for the season after defeating Zenit St Petersburg 2-0 on Saturday.
Martins, who was on for 65 minutes, made assists for the two goals scored by Salvatore Bocchetti and Vladimir Dyadun in the 28th and 38th minutes of the encounter.
Speaking after the match to Goal.com, delighted Martins said: “Yes, I am back now, I may not have scored but I made the two assists our players used in scoring. Football is about team work, and I’m happy we won the first trophy of the season.”
On rumours about his leaving Rubin Kazan on loan to West Bromwich, Martins responded: “It's true West Brom came for me, but I guess the whole stuff is still on. All I want is to play good football, I love Kazan , I don't want to talk about any transfer for now. You guys should wait until the transfer window ends.
Ahead of the final 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualification clash with Liberia, Martins says he would be interested in donning the Nigerian colours again.
“If I’m invited I will score for Keshi. The national team should not write me off, I’m still the same Obagoal, club career is totally different from the national team. I will score for Eagles if I’m invited.
“We all know how the game goes in Europe, there is no place like home. The national team handlers should also try to look at other countries, at Euro 2012, Andriy Schevchenko scored two goals but he had not played a single game for Dynamo Kiev for the past few months.
“Here I am, I play most times, I will always love to be part of the Eagles. I am fully fit and okay to take Nigeria to the 2013 Nations Cup and 2014 World Cup in Allah’s name with the help of the home based players and foreign counterparts,” said Martins.
