Coach of the Tunisian side revealed that it will be extremely difficult for Sunshine to make the semi finals after losing their first game
Esperance coach Nabil Maaloul has disclosed that it will be difficult for Sunshine Stars to qualify for the semi-finals of the Caf Champions League after losing their first game at home.
The Akure side lost 2-0 in Ijebu Ode on Sunday and now walk a tight rope to get into the semi-finals from the Group.
Speaking through an interpreter, Maaloul noted that no team loses its first game at home and expects to qualify except they also win an away game.
"I really don't see Sunshine Stars qualifying because it will be hard for them to turn around to play in the semi finals after failing to grab their first three points at home.
"I am saying this because I know this things work in competitions like the Champions League.
"The only way they can dream of playing in the semi finals is if they win an away match and also win all their home games from now.
"They did not play well in this game which they lost 2-0 and the three points will boost our chances of qualifying for the semi finals as long as we win all our home matches," Maaloul boasted
Sunshine coach Gbenga Ogunbote seems not bothered by the opinion of the Esperance coach when he said that anything can still happen in the competition
"We may have lost our first game, but I believe anything can still happen in the remaining games. I am confident that we are going to turn things around.
"We made some mistakes against Esperance and paid dearly for, but watch out for a new Sunshine Stars when we play our second game against Etoile Du Sahel.
"Nobody should write us off because we are capable of springing surprises when least expected".
Sunshine Stars defeated Djoliba of Mali to qualify for the group stage of the Champions League.
