National team coach is surprised at the easy capitulation of the Nigrian team in the continent’s elite football competition
That Nigeria Premier League side lost 2-0 to Esperance in Match-Day One of the group phase of the 2012 Caf Champions League was a disappointment in itself but Stephen Keshi, Super Eagles coach, who was present for the match at the Dipo Dina Stadium in Ijebu-Ode, revealed that the Nigerian team had capitulated too easily.
“I’m not a happy man watching this type of match,” said Keshi to reporters after the encounter.
Sunshine Stars were outplayed in the first half and gave up two goals to the defending champions of the competition though they came out strongly in the second half but the Tunisians just shut up shop.
“No. I thought they would be able to make my day, but I’m leaving Ijebu-Ode a disappointed man honestly,” Keshi added.
Keshi was in Ijebu-Ode to monitor Sunshine Stars captain, Godfrey Oboabona, who has played in all Super Eagles matches this year.
“Sunshine [Stars] were very ordinary with their approach to the tie against Esperance, and I find it very difficult to pick a single player here,” Keshi concluded.
