The Akure side say their defeat in the Federation Cup is a blessing in disguise as they have been jolted up from their slumber to face upcoming challenges headlongThe management of Sunshine Stars has described their Federation Cup loss to Nasarawa United as a blessing in disguise.
The Premier League side lost 3-0 to newly promoted Nasarawa United in one of the matches of the Federation Cup.
Mike Idoko, executive director of the Ondo State Football Agency (OSFA), said the defeat has woken them up from their slumber as they square up with Esperance of Tunisia in the Caf Champions League this Sunday in Ijebu Ode.
“We have no excuse to offer because Nasarawa United were clearly the better side. They deserved their win. Although we played without seven key players that is not in anyway denying Nasarawa United their supremacy in the game,” he said.
Idoko however stated that the defeat was a timely wake up call as they open their campaign in the Champions League against the Tunisians.
“After the match, the boys were really sad. And their response in training has been tremendous. The defeat jolted them and they have assured that they will play their hearts out on Sunday,” he said
